MUTA General Council resolved to continue the struggles against Unitary Universities Bill

The General Council of MUTA (Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa and Alagappa University Teachers’ Association) which met at Tirunelveli under the Presidentship of Prof. M. Anandakrishnan on 17.12.2010 passed the following resolution.
“Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamilnadu has given a Press statement on 13.12.2010 that the Government of Tamilnadu have not taken any effort to convert Government aided colleges into private unitary universities. Further he has reassured that the Government of Tamilnadu will not go against the interest of the college teachers and students.  MUTA thanks the decision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamilnadu in this regard. It earnestly requests the Government of Tamilnadu to withdraw the two bills regarding conversion of government aided colleges into private unitary universities in the interest of the students in the higher education sector.
If the Department of Higher Education, Government of Tamilnadu takes any further effort to convert government aided colleges into private unitary universities, MUTA has decided to launch direct action programmes including picketing and indefinite strike in alliance with Association of University Teachers (AUT) and Tamilnadu Association of Non-Teaching Staff of Aided Colleges (TANTSAC)”.
