False allegations made against MUTA

The Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa and Alagappa University Teachers' Association (MUTA) has alleged that some self-financing colleges are trying to destabilise it by making false allegations of embezzlement of funds.
At a press conference here on Wednesday, R. Murali, Joint General Secretary, told reporters that the allegations were being engineered by managements of some self-financing colleges since the association had been fighting for teachers' dignity, decent salary and restrictions in giving permission for new self-financed courses. Dr. Murali said that MUTA, with 2,200 members, was functioning in a transparent manner by meeting the requirements of the Tamil Nadu Societies Act, 1972.
“Only a very meagre amount of Rs.30 per month (on the higher side) is collected from our members as subscription fee and it is accounted properly. All money matters are accounted and audited properly and it is also submitted to the MUTA general council for approval,” he said. He also stated that the association did not collect any election fund and the accounts were published in the MUTA bulletins to keep them in the domain of its members. “Our association is insisting strict measures against those college managements that are paying poor salaries to teachers and collecting exorbitant fees from students in the name of self-financing courses.”, Dr. Murali said.
Other members observed that the scam allegation had originated from Kanyakumari district which has more self-financing private colleges and MUTA has been demanding better facilities for teachers and trying to regulate the colleges.
