JAC demands the Government of Tamilnadu and the Department of Higher Education to withdraw the undemocratic G.O No. 137 which mandates prior permission of Government for teachers and Principals to contest in the Senate and Syndicate of State Universities

The JAC executive committee which met on 07th August 2016 at AUT office, Chennai strongly condemned the Government of Tamil Nadu which has passed an order stating that the teachers and the principals of Aided and Government colleges must get prior permission from the Government to contest in the Senate and Syndicate elections under the pretext of maintaining peace and academic atmosphere in the college campus. The reasons attributed in the Governmenr Order are against truth and hence unacceptable. From the date of inception of the Universities in Tamil Nadu, the contributions made in the Academic and Administrative arena by the teachers through the Senate, Syndicate, Standing Committee on Academic Affairs, Board of Studies and other University Bodies are enormous and well established. The present G.O. M.S. No. 137 (Hr. Edn.) dated 15-07-2016 and the subsequent proceedings of the Director of Collegiate Education, Na. Ka. No. 39953/J1/2016 dated 28-07-2016 is vindictive in nature and an onslaught made on the democratic rights of the teachers and principals of Aided and Government colleges.

The JAC executive committee resolved to have
a)    letter campaign through FAX on 8th August 2016 and
b)    a demonstration at the entrance of the colleges on 9th August 2016
to urge the Department of Higher Education to withdraw the G.O. M.S. No. 137 (Higher Education) dated 15-07-2016 and the subsequent proceedings of the Director of Collegiate Education Na. Ka. No. 39953/J1/ 2016 dated 28-07-2016 which mandate prior permission from the Government for teachers and Principals willing to contest in the Senate and Syndicate elections of the State Universities.

JAC requested all the Unit Secretaries of TNGCTA/AUT/MUTA to take necessary steps to execute the above programs without fail.
