Annamalai University Teachers arrested - MUTA condemns the administration of Annamalai University and expresses its solidarity with the Joint Action Council of Annamalai University

The Joint Action Council  of  seven associations of Teachers and Employees in Annamalai University, including AUTA, through their stay-in agitation inside the Vice-Chancellor’s chamber since 1st July 2010,  against the unethical practice of the authorities of Annamalai University in extending the services of  the Registrar who has completed 69 years of age ( given service extension for the 9th time from 1.7.2010) and  to  the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, who has completed 65 years (given service extension for the 5th time) after their superannuation. The police arrested the members of JAC – Annamalai University on 6th July 2010.

MUTA condemns the arrest of the JAC- Annamalai University members and demands that the Chancellor and Governor of Tamil Nadu and the Chief Minister of the Government of Tamil Nadu should save Higher Education in the State by intervening and stopping the unethical and illegal practices of the Annamalai University administration and by ordering the release of the arrested JAC members immediately.

• A mass dharna is organized at Tirunelveli on 7.7.2010 to condemn the administration of Annamalai University; to urge the Government of Tamilnadu to take immediate efforts to release the arrested teachers and employees and to sort out the issues by conceding the demands of JAC – Annamalai University.
• All the units are sending telegram on 6.7.2010 to the Chief Minister, Government of Tamilnadu, the  Minister for Higher Education, Government of Tamilnadu and the Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of Tamilnadu, calling for their intervention immediately in this issue.
