AIFUCTO XXVIII Statutory Conference - Higher Education in the New Education policy: Challenges and Prospects - Ambaji, Gujarat - 18-20 December 2015
The 28th Statutory Conference of the AIFUCTO will be held at Ambaji, Gujarat on December 18, 19, 20, 2015.
AIFUCTO cordially invites delegates and observers from the affiliated organizations to participate in this conference. AIFUCTO conferences are an occasion for the teachers from all over the country to deliberate upon the activities of the organisation, to analyse the educational scene in the country and in the world. It is crucial for the teachers to participate in the emerging educational scenario. The theme of the Conference is 'Higher Education in the New Education policy: Challenges and Prospects’.
Since 1962 the conferences occupy a very important place in AIFUCTO movement. The conferences provide the opportunity to discuss many important issues before us and AIFUCTO requests all to attend this conference to make valuable contribution to set the path of higher education in the right direction. A special feature of this conference is a thorough discussion on the Proposed New Education Policy; the first draft may be available by that time. The students and the teachers being the most important stake holders in the ongoing discourses, AIFUCTO has a very special role to review the proposals of changes and make specific suggestions to the policy makers.
With the new government in the Centre, AIFUCTO expected some positive measures in the interest of teachers. It is a matter of great concern that the Government for the first time in the history has denied any dialogue with the teachers’ associations. Not only that any measure has been taken to improve the service conditions of the teachers, there is total absence of governance in higher education. All the decisions of UGC regarding teachers’ service conditions have been kept in cold storage, all the progress achieved as a result of continuous AIFUCTO movement have made no progress at all. Even the UGC pay review committee for recommending 7th pay revision of teachers and other academic staff has not yet been constituted. AIFUCTO has organised many demonstrations, one day cease work with Hunger Strike in Delhi evoked no response from the Government and there is total silence on the part of the government. Hence this conference will decide on the future courses of the AIFUCTO movement.
There are extremely important issues before us. AIFUCTO wants all the affiliates to make contribution to the AIFUCTO movement. The AIFUCTO, which is in the vanguard of the teachers' movement, has a significant role to play and the whole-hearted participation will help in deciding the future course of action.
